Collection: Rolling Pins

A rolling pin is a cylindrical kitchen tool used to roll out dough. Rolling pins are also used to crush food items such as crackers and nuts. The most common rolling pins are made of wood, but they can also be made of metal, ceramic, or even glass.
Rolling pins come in a variety of sizes, but the most common size is about 18 inches (46 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in diameter. Smaller rolling pins are used for rolling out smaller pieces of dough, such as for making cookies, while larger rolling pins are better for rolling out larger pieces of dough, such as for making pies.
To use a rolling pin, flour is first sprinkled onto a clean, flat surface. The dough is then placed on the floured surface and rolled out with the rolling pin, using a back-and-forth motion. The dough is rolled out until it is the desired thickness.
If the dough becomes sticky, more flour can be added to the surface or to the rolling pin. When rolling out dough for a pie crust, it is important to roll the dough out evenly so that the crust will be of even thickness.
Rolling pins can be purchased at most kitchen supply stores. They are also available online.
