A rice cooker or rice steamer is an automated kitchen appliance designed to boil or steam rice. It consists of a heat source, a cooking chamber, and a thermostat. The thermostat measures the temperature of the cooking chamber and controls the heat.
Rice cookers can be used to cook other rice dishes such as risotto and paella. Some rice cookers have a sauté function which allows them to be used as a rice cooker and a pan. Rice cookers come in a variety of sizes and designs. The most basic rice cookers just have an on/off switch while more complex rice cookers have digital controls and timers.
